Meranti is a type of wood we have in South Africa. You cannot get more original than this! It varies greatly in colour and that is its beauty. Colour can range from deep reddish browns right through to pale yellow woods.
Meranti is a medium to hard wood. It is hard enough to resist environmental conditions yet not as expensive as some hardwoods. Its colour deepens dramatically with aging. This theme fits well with a rustic Lodge or game farm type of setting. Keep it natural and combine the wood with other items to avoid a strict and monotonous Meranti colour!
In the screen shot above I have combined rock walls (recently added to the site) and touches of green. You could also use a ground floor in rock and the upper part in Meranti. Try to alternate the horizontal and vertical boarding to create patterns esp. on corners.
The doors and windows have been made in part from South African companies who produce these items in real life.
Please read the notes in the file How To "Build.txt" on more information on how to construct balconies with the railings.
There is no house from which I made the screen shot! It was just a backdrop to showcase the objects. I may build one in the future when I have some time.
If you want to see a clear picture of the screen shot there are two wallpaper variations on the Yahoo Group.
